Experience 400 years of William Shakespeare

Celebrating 400 years since his death in 1616, Shakespeare 400 is a series of cultural and artistic events that engage audiences with Shakespeare ’s work across the globe. ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥ Department of English and University Libraries will join the worldwide fanfare to present “Shakespeare in the Spring: Early Printings, Modern Performance”.

On April 22, 2016, the celebration will be begin in Bierce Library room 154 at 1:30pm with the display of Shakespeare holdings from ÃÛ½ÛÖ±²¥’s . This collection consists of more than 200 rare books and first editions, and includes volumes of international significance; the library will display the Second, Third, and Fourth Folio printings of Shakespeare’s comedies, histories, and tragedies (dated 1632, 1664, 1685).

The celebration will continue with remarks by Victor Fleischer, Head of Archival Services at the University of Akron, and  Dr. Chatham Ewing, Cleveland Public Library Digital Library Strategist. The festivities will conclude with a performance by the Rubber City Shakespeare Company. The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be provided.
